In the nature-Artikel "Bottom-up effects of plant diversity on multitrophic interactions in a biodiversity experiment" the international research team, including Tanja Rottstock and Dr. Volker Kummer, present latest results from their research. They found a bottom-up effect of plant biodiversity on the upper levels of the food web in an artificial grassland ecosystem.

| The annual conference of the Floristisch-soziologische Arbeitsgemeinschaft will be held in Potsdam from 2nd to 5th of June 2011. It will be hosted by our working group in cooperation with the Botanical Garden. Several talks and excursions following the topic "flora and vegetation in Brandenburg" will be held on that weekend. | |||
| On November 14th PD Dr. Ewald Weber gave one of the sunday lectures in the course of the series "Potsdamer Köpfe" (heads of Potsdam) about invasive species. | |||

From 18th to 29th of october 2010 the 10th conference of parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) took place in Nagoya, Japan. In the center of this years negotiations stood the Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS), that controls the access to genetic ressources, the drafting of a new strategic plan, and the definition of new biodiversity goals. Other topics were biodiversity and climate change and invasive species.

On september 24th Maren Gleisberg talked about Biodiversity ("Das Netz des Lebens - Was nutzt uns eine große Artenvielfalt?") in a lecture during the childrens university day at Potsdam University.

| Our group presented in the frame of the "Stadt für eine Nacht"-event of the Hans-Otto-Theaters together with the Naturalhistory Museum Potsdam and the Biosphäre Potsdam, a colorful programme around the topic of biodiversity. From 2pm on saturday 18th until 2pm on sunday 19th of September we presented short talks and join-in actions for children concerning biodiversity in our booth in the Schiffsbauergasse of Potsdam. Additionally every two hours a symbolic auction of a species took place to call attention to the rapid decline of biological diversity. You can find more about this here. |

| On june 5th we took part in the Long Night of Science (pages of Potsdam University - German). Ewald Weber held a lecture on invasive species ("Goldrute, Waschbär und Eschen-Ahorn: Exoten bedrohen unsere Biodiversität") and at our booth ("Biologie im Freien") we tried to give the visitors a more intimate view on the topic of biodiversity ("Biodiversität erleben"). Especially our special guest Anne, the sheep, gave lasting inpressions, which helped explain the role of sheep grazing on dry grasslands and the dispersal of diaspores in its hair.
