We investigate the structure and function of populations, communities and food webs using field observations, experiments and mathematical modelling. Our objectives are to contribute to ecological theory and to solving urgent environmental problems caused e.g. by biodiversity loss and climate change. We use the plankton as our model system and study the potential for adaptation at the level of individuals (ecophysiology), populations and communities.
