Our primary research aim is the generic understanding and the improvement of predicting the dynamics of populations, communities and landscapes in variable environments. Our approach is based on the spatial analysis of demographic processes. Here, we combine simulation models with empirical and experimental research.

The regional research foci are located in arid and semi-arid regions (e.g. Southern Africa, Middle East, Australia), but also in the central European grassland.
